Pokémon!

Pokémon Gold and Yellow Versions
My Game Boy Color

Pokémon. I love it. The first game I ever played was Pokémon Gold Version and ever since then, I've played every version there is. Today I'm going to compare how they show Kanto and Johto. Screenshots are actual size.

Pokémon Red and Blue (Green if you're Japanese) Versions were the first two Pokémon games ever. They had the first 151 pokemon from Bulbasaur to Mew and revolutionised gaming forever

I never really played these games—I played Pokémon Yellow Version instead. Regardless, I get massive nostalgia from playing these. The most popular thing about them is the glitches (which can lead to being able to catch all the Pokémon without trading at all).

Pokémon Yellow Version

This was the game Nintendo made to follow the anime storyline. There are a few subtle differences between this and the previous three versions. The main difference is that you are forced to choose Pikachu when you start (Pikachu are such annoying Pokémon) and the Pikachu doesn't like Poké Balls so it follows you around. The graphics are enhanced a bit too because Yellow Version includes compatibility for the Game Boy Color which came out around that time. I got my Pokémon Yellow from my friend along with my Game Boy Color and a few other games.

Second Generation

Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal Version

Pokémon Gold Version was the first Pokémon game I ever played. I can finish it (not catching all the Pokémon, obviously) within a few hours. Its replay value is infinite for me as I remember picking this game up at six or seven years old and becoming absolutely hooked.
Pokémon Gold, Silver and Crystal Versions introduce a new region to the Pokémon world called Johto while still keeping the one from the previous generation (Kanto). They also add a real-time clock and a day and night cycle which brings different Pokémon at certain times of day and sometimes even certain days.
Gold and Silver Versions were the first released then later Crystal Version came out with the new option of playing as a female character. It also brought the Battle Tower into the series.

Pokémon FireRed/LeafGreen Version

Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen Versions are Pokémon Red and Green Versions updated for the Game Boy Advance. I haven't played them much so I'm not as experienced with them.

Fourth Generation

Pokémon HeartGold/SoulSilver Version

I'm playing this game right now and it's a very impressive upgrade to the gameplay of Pokémon Gold Version although the Pokégear phone keeps ringing and it's annoying the hell out of me. It's always that same Youngster Joey too, talking about how his Rattata is in the top percentage of Rattata. Fuck off, Joey.
